From the tract, “Why I rejected evolution” by Dr. Patrick Briney.
As an atheist, I believed in evolution as fact. It was the only explanation for existence. But after attending a lecture on creation science, I began to rethink the question of origins. The speaker had pointed out several things that I knew were true, but I never considered the implications. He also said some things I had not been told about in class. Subsequently, I began to doubt evolution, distrust teachers of evolution, and wonder what else I had not been told. Eventually, I became a Christian and a believer in the Genesis account of creation. Let me share with you some of the things that I believe will convince anyone who looks honestly into the subject of origins.
Evidence for Supernatural Origin by Design
Charles Thaxton of Charles University in Prague wrote that evidence for design is reasonable because, “In ordinary life we distinguish natural from intelligent causes all the time—when Continue Reading
Deriving that the intelligent designer of creation is God rather than just a first cause of energized order can be based on the characteristics of creation. Intelligent design in creation reflects the qualities possessed by the intelligent designer.
Consider the following characteristics observed in creation and their associated traits ascribed to the designer:
- Complex design in the physical world indicates an intelligent designer.
- Intelligence indicates personality.
- The fine tuning of the universe to make life possible indicates purpose and compassionate preparation.
- The physical world shows extreme complexity.
- The physical world shows creativity.
- The physical world shows astronomical size and power.
- A supernatural entity having intelligence, personality, purpose, compassion, complexity, creativity, and astronomical size and power fits the description of God.
Psa 72:18 declares, “Blessed be the LORD God, the God of Israel, who only doeth wondrous things.” And Ps 139:14 says, “I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvelous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.”
God’s creation of heaven and earth is a remarkable demonstration of awesome power, unimaginable intelligence, immense size, and a display of complexity and beauty that defies description. And no wonder that we see these characteristics in creation. Romans 1:20 explains, “For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:”
This passage and even creation itself are worth pondering for a moment to consider what invisible things we can see of God in His creation. David tells us that he did this saying in Psalm 143:5, “I remember the days of old; I meditate on all thy works; I muse on the work of thy hands.”
In what ways are the invisible things of God seen in creation? Characteristics of creation express the thoughts and qualities of the Creator: The incomprehensible immensity of creation shows the Continue Reading
